Proposed Changes to Brush & Leaf Collection

PROPOSED CHANGES TO BRUSH & LEAF COLLECTION

Dear West Windsor Residents,

West Windsor has experienced significant growth over the past several years. To keep pace with that growth, the Township Administration is continually evaluating ways to improve the services we provide to residents.

Our Department of Public Works (DPW) delivers a wide range of essential services throughout the year. In addition to leaf and brush collection, DPW crews maintain street trees, repair potholes, collect roadside litter, perform roadside mowing, and carry out many other critical functions that help keep our community safe and attractive.

Leaf and brush collection are among the most time-intensive DPW operations. To ensure we are using Township resources as effectively as possible, I asked DPW to review the current collection schedule and identify opportunities to better align service with periods of highest demand.

After careful analysis and consultation with DPW staff, we have developed a proposed policy that we believe will improve overall service delivery for residents by:

  1. Keeping leaf and brush collection closer to the published schedule.
  2. Providing additional time for DPW crews to perform other important services, particularly during periods of increased demand.

Before any changes are finalized, we want to hear from you.

Please review the proposed policy and share your thoughts by emailing BrushandLeaf@westwindsortwp.gov no later than July 15, 2026. The Mayor and Township Council will carefully review all feedback before making a final decision.

Key Highlights of the Proposal
  • No services are being eliminated.
  • Leaf Collection
    • Collection would continue during six months of the year: January, April, May, June, November, and December.
    • January leaf collection would be retained.
    • March leaf collection would be discontinued.
  • Brush Collection
    • Collection would be reduced from ten months per year to five months per year: April, May, June, September, and October.
    • Residents would continue to have the option to drop off brush at the DPW facility throughout the year.
    • Scheduled curbside brush collection would be discontinued during March, July, August, November, and December.
